Voices of Independence: An exploration of the Declaration of Independence

The Continental Congress’ approval of the Declaration of Independence is commemorated on July 4th. The Declaration of Independence outlines the reasons for separating from Great Britain and the principles on which the United States is founded.

Located in the Main Stacks, our new mixed media display brings together books, images, and a short video to help you explore the context, controversies, and legacy of one of the most pivotal documents in American history. Come take a fresh look at a familiar document and reflect upon the ideals of freedom, equality, and revolution that continue to shape our world today.

Thank you to Susan Connelly (Access & User Services) and student staff Saksham Sharma for their work in putting this display together.
