The Health Sciences Library’s vision:

The mission of the Health Sciences Library is to provide the quality resources and excellent service needed to support the educational, research, and clinical activities of the Stony Brook University Health Sciences community.

The Health Sciences Library (HSL) supports teaching, research and patient care in six programs: Dental Medicine, Health Technology and Management, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, and Social Welfare. The Library also supports research and patient care for the University Hospital and the Long Island State Veterans Home. The University Libraries is also committed to support of the work of SBU faculty and students abroad through the Office of Global Library Initiatives.

The Health Sciences Library is a Resource Library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine administered by the National Library of Medicine, a division of NIH. The HSL is a member of the North East Research Libraries consortium (NERL), the Association of Research Libraries, and the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL). The library also functions as a regional resource assisting health care professionals throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties.

The library maintains a current print collection of over 170,000 physical serial and monograph volumes, and access to over 5,000 electronic journal subscriptions. Additionally, the library supports access to 183 electronic research databases, including AccessMedicine, ClinicalKey, DynaMed, MEDLINE,  UpToDate, and Web of Science. Numerous sessions on improving the effectiveness of managing information resources are offered throughout the year. The Health Sciences Library is part of the larger Stony Brook Libraries system sharing resources across campuses and branches expanding access to interdisciplinary resources which are accessible for all Stony Brook faculty, staff, and students.

The HSL is located on Level 3 of the Health Sciences Tower, which is adjacent to the University Hospital and Medical Center.

From Hospital

Visitors can park in the Hospital Garage and enter the main entrance. Proceed toward the gift shop and cafeteria, bear to the right and at the end of the hallway take the escalator on the left.  Walk straight ahead for the escalator on Level 4 to Level 3. The Health Sciences Library is on the left side.

Parking

Visitors should use either the North Garage or the South Garage adjacent to the Center. Surface lot parking also adjoins the Center. Daily parking rates are set at a maximum of $7.50 per day or $1.50 per hour (current rates at official parking website). Free parking is also available at North and South P-Lots. An express bus travels to and from the Health Sciences Tower every 20 minutes, making a stop at South Campus to accommodate visitors to the School of Dental Medicine.
