ClariNuts Fill the Air

The May 5 performance by Professor Alan Kay’s clarinet studio, the ClariNuts, was warmly received by listeners in the Melville Library’s Galleria.

Professor Kay welcomed everyone and introduced the selections.
Perry Goldstein’s Of Vines and Wines was performed by Guilherme Batalha, Daniel Meszaros and Chao-Chih George Chen, clarinets ; and Andrew Coleman, bass clarinet.
Professor Goldstein was in attendance (2nd row from right).
Chao-Chih George Chen, clarinet and Pei-En Ho, piano performed Amy Beach’s Romance.
Djakhangir Khaydarov, clarinet and Qianli Charlie Chen, piano performed the Allegro Appassionato from the Sonata, Op. 120, No. 2 in E-flat Major of Johannes Brahms.
Guilherme Batalha, clarinet, and Kevin Kyaw, piano performed the “Entr’acte,” and “L’amour est un oiseau rebelle,” from Pablo de Sarasate’s “Carmen,” Fantasy (arr. by Nicolas Baldeyrou).
Meli Everson and Daniel Meszaros, clarinets, performed “Saturday,” and “Sabroso,” from Mauricio Murcia Bedoya’s Three Colombian Dances.
Guilherme Batalha, E-flat clarinet, Djakhangir Khaydarov and Meli Everson, clarinet and Andrew Coleman, bass clarinet performed “Joropo,” and “Son,” from Jorge Montilla’s composition Four by Four.
Guilherme Batalha, E-flat clarinet, Meli Everson, Prof. Kay, Daniel Meszaros, Djakhangir Khaydarov, clarinets ; and Andrew Coleman, bass clarinet performed James Balentine’s A Toot in Ninesia.
The concert ended with Three Tangos, by Astor Piazzolla, arr. by Jean-Pierre Labaste: “Psicosis” ; “Mi exaltacion” ; and “Recuerdo New York.” The performers were: Maximo Flores, Prof. Kay, Djakhangir Khaydarov, Daniel Meszaros, Meli Everson, and Guilherme Batalha, clarinets ; Chao-Chih George Chen and Andrew Coleman, bass clarinets.
