On March 7, 2023, Dr. Shikui Chen discussed the challenges of, and opportunities for, optimal designs of structural shapes using topology optimization and geometric modeling.
Dr. Chen established a level-set-based topology optimization framework. He discussed how 2D to 3D designs allowed topology flexibility. During the lecture, Dr. Chen also shared his 3D printing design samples with the audience. It was amazing to see the stretching flexibility in one of the samples when it was pressed on. We can also view many other research and designs from Dr. Chen’s Computational Modeling, Analysis, and Design Optimization (CMADO) lab here.
The intriguing lecture attracted questions from faculty and mechanical engineering students.
