Need a quiet, private space for a virtual counseling appointment, Zoom/Teams class, or online meeting? Melville Library has you covered!
Thanks to a partnership between the Stony Brook University Libraries and the Center for Prevention and Outreach (CPO), three new state-of-the-art Framery One Compact privacy pods were installed in Melville Library during Fall Break on October 13, 2026.
Designed with privacy, acoustic comfort, and student well-being in mind, these single-person pods offer a soundproof environment where you can step inside, close the door, and focus on your virtual appointments, important video calls, or classes without distractions.
Where can you find them?
Three pods are available in Melville Library:
- North Reading Room: Southwest Corner, next to Study Room NG1-A.
- North Reading Room: South Wall, along the south wall near the desktop computers.
- The Galleria: Near the Island Federal ATM.
- Coming Soon: An additional wheelchair-accessible pod will be installed in the Central Reading Room (CRR), expanding access to private spaces for students.
What’s inside?
Each pod is designed for one person and includes:
- Acoustic insulation to reduce background noise and provide greater privacy for conversations.
- Adjustable ventilation & lighting to keep you comfortable.
- Power outlets and USB ports to keep your devices charged.
- Compact ergonomics with an adjustable seat and desk workspace.
- Simply step inside, close the door, and enjoy a quieter space for your virtual appointment, class, or meeting.
How do I reserve a pod?
Once the reservation system is ready, the pods will be reservable with a simple online booking process. We’ll post a booking link on the Libraries’ website and QR codes on each pod so you can reserve a space quickly and easily.
Stay tuned for booking details!
We’re excited to offer these new spaces as part of our ongoing commitment to making Melville Library a welcoming, supportive environment for student learning and well-being.
