Lara Nicosia will join University Libraries as a Health Sciences Librarian beginning February 23, 2026.
Mrs. Nicosia holds a Master of Science in Library and Information Science and a Master of Arts in Museum Studies from Syracuse University. Most recently, she served as a Digital Learning Specialist at the University of Rochester, where she led the design and implementation of a newly created innovative digital learning program to enhance library instruction and services through the use of emerging technologies. Prior to that, she served as the Humanities Librarian at the same institution, where she engaged in instruction, research consultations, collection development, and also developed new systems for streamlining reference services as well as library data collection. She is well-versed in cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, programming languages, and data wrangling software. In addition, she has an impressive record of scholarship, service, grants, and awards.
Having lived in Rochester, New York for the past 16 years, Lara has sailed on a canal boat on the Erie Canal, dipped her toes in four of the five Great Lakes, and walked above, behind, and below Niagara Falls multiple times. She enjoys traveling with her husband and two sons and has already checked off 13 Major League Baseball stadiums and 11 presidential homes and libraries along the way.
Some fun facts about Lara:
- She loves penguins and has even had the opportunity to pet and interact with one at the National Aviary.
- She completed an internship at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, where she helped rehouse their collection of 200+ shoes and assisted during Cal Ripken Jr. and Tony Gwynn’s induction.
Lara is excited for the opportunity to join the health sciences team and to be part of Stony Brook University Libraries. Please join us in welcoming her!
