Musical Heritage Collections Featured in SBU Magazine

Special Collections and University Archives is featured in the latest issue of SBU Magazine (Winter 2025) in the extra “Rare Treasures” column, which highlights music collections that illustrate the depth and diversity of Stony Brook’s musical heritage. From the compositions of Billy Jim Layton, to the energy of student-organized rock concerts, to the historic 1969 visit by Igor Stravinsky, these materials capture pivotal moments in the university’s artistic and cultural evolution. The archives serve as a vital resource for researchers, students, and the public, offering a window into the people, performances, and movements that have shaped Stony Brook’s identity as a center for both musical innovation and scholarship.
