Stony Brook University’s Healthier U initiative kicked off the Seawolf Shuffle 5K on May 3, 2025. The well-attended event was open to SBU faculty, staff, students, alumni, and their families. SBU Libraries participated as Team Library. The weather was warm and sunny as Team Library gathered at the SBU Union patio for this first annual 5K (3.1 mile) race.
Two hundred and twenty-seven Seawolves sprinted at breakneck speed through the start line at precisely 9:30 AM, cheered on by spectators. The first turn was a left onto John S Toll Road and then onto Circle Road which served as our track. The course was patrolled and managed by SBU UPD, which also cheered on the shufflers. At the halfway mark, by the Power Plant, water was provided and encouragement was given. The second leg of the course took us by the train station, baseball field, and finally past Tubman Hall and back onto Toll Drive.
The finish line was lined with revelers, cameras, and much-needed beverages. The mood was cheerful and filled with laughter, and despite our tiredness, we vowed to return next year.
