Rays of sun poured over the Galleria during the Art of the Violin concert on Monday, April 21. The concert is the last of the semester and offered a particularly rich array of Baroque, Classical, Romantic and contemporary selections. In addition to Professor Jennifer Frautschi’s talented violin students, members of other instrumental studios joined in to play a variety of duets, trios and a quintet. The Clarinet Trio in A minor, op. 114 of Johannes Brahms was performed by Dániel Mészáros, clarinet, Sandro Sidamonidze, cello and Nahyoung Kim, piano:

Hyun Ji Lee, violin and Somin Choi, piano, performed Igor Stravinsky’s Suite Italienne:

Noah Koh, cello performed Luigi Boccherini’s Cello Sonata No. 6 in A Major, G. 4, with basso continuo provided by Sandro Sidamonidze, cello:

Mr. Koh followed this with a performance of Boccherini’s Cello Sonata No. 2 in C Minor, G. 2b, this time with continuo provided by Hyunah Lee, cello:

The concert ended with the Clarinet Quintet in B-flat Major, op. 34 by Carl Maria von Weber, with performers Guilherme Batalha, clarinet; Rachel Da Young Lim and Rachel Zhao, violins; Rachel Haber, viola; and Sarah Ghandour, cello.

A well-deserved standing ovation ended the concert. Thanks to Professor Frautschi for coordinating this splendid event, Tom Malenich for tuning the piano and to Chris Kretz, Kristen Nyitray, Victor Santiago, Marta Weigand, Ahmad Pratama, and Justin Manoo for their help setting up and breaking down the concert.
