Melville Library Galleria Glow-Up: More Seats, More Outlets, More Vibes!

Big news, everyone–the Galleria just got a major upgrade, and it’s ready for YOU! Whether you’re here to grind out an essay, vibe with a good book, or just people-watch between classes, this refreshed space is better than ever.

What’s NEW?

More seating! We went from 64 chairs to 81 — that’s a 26% increase, meaning you’re way more likely to find the perfect study or chill spot.
More outlets! No more fighting for a charging station–there are now 38 outlets (up from 9), a 322% boost! Plug in and power up.
Fresh paint & fixtures! A crisp new look, especially on the west wall. Because your workspace should be as fresh as your ideas.
Cleaner, brighter lighting! 14 sconces cleaned and updated with fresh bulbs.
Cozy new seating in the horseshoe areas! More spots to chill and chat. By the way, they are no longer horseshoe-shaped, so we’ll have to come up with a new name for these cool upgrades.
New greenery! 3 trees and 9 plants for that oxygen-boosting, stress-reducing aesthetic.
Shiny, clean floors & banisters! We stripped, stained, and shined so the whole place looks polished and spiffy.

A true campus collaboration

This project was initiated by Vice President of Student Affairs, Rick Gatteau, in collaboration with Stony Brook University Libraries, recognizing the Library Galleria as a central hub of campus activity. It was made possible through the support and funding from the Office of the President. Thanks to this investment, students now have an even better space to study, socialize, and thrive!
