We are excited to share that the Melville Galleria will be renovated during the winter break. You may have noticed some spot painting and sanding of the banisters already. Full construction will begin Thursday, December 19. We anticipate a completion date of Friday, January 24, 2025, just in time for the Spring Semester.
During construction, there will be dust, debris, and strong odors from the painting and staining in the Galleria. The construction team will take necessary precautions, ensuring fans are in place and egress areas remain accessible. However, please note this will be an active construction site, so we kindly ask for your patience during this brief period. All library spaces will remain open as scheduled.
Below is the tentative timeline:
12/20
- Staining of the stairwell and sign
- Arrival of the lifts (to be stored under the stairwell when not in use)
- Removal of planters, plants, paintings, and furniture in the Galleria
- Removal of dust accumulated on the tall brick wall and addressing of any leaks
- Fans placed strategically facing out into the Galleria and out of offices
12/26-12/27
- Application of polyethylene coating on stairwell and sign
- Painting of the brick wall will commence
12/30-1/22
- Electric work
- Paint (wall, windows, vents, light sconces)
- Removal of the two horse shoe tabletops
- Masonry work
- New countertops
1/22-1/24
- Furniture delivery and installation
Thank you for your patience. We are so excited for this long-awaited renovation of Melville Library’s beautiful Galleria! Check back for updates!
