Four members of University Libraries presented at the 2024 Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) Northeast Chapter’s Annual Conference, themed ‘We’re all in this together’: Catalyzing Social Change in Asian American Communities,” on April 6th, 2024, at Bobst Library, NYU.
Michael Huang, SUNY Distinguished Librarian and Director of Global Library Initiatives, presented “Collaborating for success: Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Global Library Initiatives at Stony Brook University.”
Clara Tran, Head of Science and Engineering, presented on the topic of “The Use of Preprints in Doctorate Programs: A Citation Analysis Study of Trends in Chemistry and Physics Dissertations.”
Sunny Chung, Health Sciences Librarian and Caterina Reed, Academic Engagement Librarian, presented on “Exploring Filipino Nurses’; Experiences in the United States: Cultivating Connections through Interdepartmental Dialogue and Engagement.”
Following the presentations, CALA’s Northeast Chapter had the opportunity to attend a book talk by Dr. Ava Chin on her memoir, Mott Street: A Chinese American Family’s Story of Exclusion and Homecoming. This memoir includes topics such as the resilience of New York’s Chinatown, the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, and “paper sons.” After the talk, participants had the opportunity to engage with Dr. Chin by participating in a Q&A session and book signings.
