On Tuesday, October 18th, University Libraries and the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center were pleased to welcome Independent Scholar, David Lembeck, for an Art in Focus talk on “Harold Lehman’s Renovo Mural.”
David Lembeck’s lecture focused on Lehman’s mural, “Locomotive Repair Operation,” completed in 1943 for the Renovo Post Office in North-Central Pennsylvania. This fascinating talk included details on the mural’s development and Lehman’s influences, including Mexican Muralists and Renaissance painter, Piero della Francesca. Lembeck also discussed how mural artists were able to include controversial details in their murals that went unnoticed in their much smaller format submission drawings. You can view David Lembeck’s recorded lecture on YouTube below.
There is one more lecture to come in the Fall 2022 Art in Focus series. On November 1, we will host Gail Levin for her talk “Lynne Drexler, A Forgotten Abstract Expressionist”. This event will be held on a Tuesday at 6pm on Zoom.
Until then, visit the Harold Lehman: The Nineteen Thirties exhibit at the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center in East Hampton until October 30th!
We are proud to present this lecture series made possible with support from the John H. Marburger III Fund of Stony Brook University.
