Student Spotlight – Ellie Gouvis

Meet Elizabeth Gouvis, or Ellie, as she prefers to be called. Ellie began working for the University Libraries during the 2018 Spring semester and has been with us ever since. Growing up in Sayville, Long Island Ellie chose Stony Brook University because of its excellent reputation and closer proximity to home. As a double major in biochemistry and business Ellie is working towards her undergraduate degree and envisions a career in pharmaceutical development. She’s also involved in the campus community as a member of the Women In Science and Engineering Honors Program, the Greek and Cypriot Student Association, the Greek dance team, and the Speech and Debate Society. As if she wasn’t busy enough, she also writes for Odyssey Online, and in her spare time she practices photography and graphic design.

Favorite place to study:
“My favorite places to study are the sinc sites and the quiet section of the Health Sciences Library.”

Favorite library location:
“The Health Sciences Library! My favorite thing about the library is how inviting the environment is, all the plants and the atmosphere create a relaxing environment to work in.”

Tip for students new to the library:
“A fun tip about the library is that you can access the New York Times and other papers such as the Washington Post all from the University library website.”
