Survey of SBU Author Perspectives on Article Processing Charges (APCs)

Two Stony Brook University (SBU) librarians are conducting a survey on SBU author perspectives on article processing charges (APCs). The open access movement changes the scholarly publishing landscape in many revolutionary ways. The Gold open access model, where the journal provides open access, significantly shifts the journal subscription model to the author-pays model. Some open access journals do not have APCs, though some publishers charge APCs ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. The payments of APCs may come from funding agencies, institutions, or authors. Articles funded by APCs can be freely available to everyone. We hope to learn from the research and data what the future APC responsibility may look like for Stony Brook University authors and in general.

This is a brief anonymous survey which takes about 3-4 minutes to complete. Data will be used to inform our library about how it could improve helping authors find funding for APCs.
