SBU Librarians Present at International Conference in Beijing, China

Last week, librarians Claudia McGivney, Dana Haugh, and Michael Huang attended and presented at the International Conference on Embedded Education and Instruction of New Models of Library Service at Capital Normal University, Beijing, China held November 15-17, 2017. Michael Huang gave a keynote address titled “From Embedded to Liaison Librarian: Academic Librarian in Transition” and also provided on-site translation (Mandarin/English) for Margaret Law, University of Alberta, during her keynote speech titled “From Servants to Partners: Keeping Librarians Relevant.”

The conference was attended by over 300 people and featured presentations in both English and Mandarin. Claudia McGivney, Head of Academic Engagement, presented her accepted paper, “Assessment through peer assessment: a method of peer evaluation for the liaison model” and Dana Haugh, Web Services Librarian, presented two accepted papers which included a solo-authored paper titled “Digital Marketing Strategies in Libraries” and co-authored case study titled “Colloquium Series: a study in library faculty engagement.”
