On Thursday, 11/16, two faculty members from University Libraries presented their research projects.
Clara Tran presented on her assessment of the information literacy sessions provided to the WISE program each semester, Baseline assessment: Understanding WISE freshman students’ information literacy skills in a one-shot library session. This presentation was followed by a discussion regarding the best ways to assess impact on student learning.
Chris Filstrup delivered the second presentation, Destroy libraries and make books out of metal! The Italian Futurists in Word and Deed, on his research of the Italian Futurist movement including one of its most notable figures, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. The presentation included several thought provoking discussions about the futurist movement’s thoughts on libraries and images of futurist books published in metal.
These two presentations highlight the varied research interests of the library faculty and the broad spectrum of disciplines that librarian engage with at Stony Brook University.
