SBU Libraries hosts campus Map-athon event to assist Puerto Rico

SBU Libraries was proud to partner with faculty from the SBU History Department, The Geospatial Center at School of Marine and Atmospheric Studies (SoMAS) and SBU Center for the Study of Inequalities, Social Justice, and Policy to host a volunteer “Map-athon” event to assist relief efforts in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. The event was held in the new North Reading Room Learning Lab at the Stony Brook Foundation Knowledge Commons, Frank Melville, Jr. Memorial Library.

The event was one of many similar events organized at university libraries across the nation where volunteers used the OpenStreetMap platform to contribute to online digital mapping projects set up by the Red Cross and The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT).
