***For finals, Melville Library will open 24 hours/ 7 days a week from May 1 – 18, 2016; Library closes at 5PM on May 18th***
Beginning Monday January 25, 2016 the Stony Brook University Libraries announces a 24–hour schedule. As a premier University, and one of nation’s leading research institutions, Stony Brook’s Administration and the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) recognize that we must continue to provide students with innovative resources and more support in order to ensure that they not only succeed, but, excel. Upon consultation with the USG and with the support of Stony Brook University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., Provost Dennis Assanis and Dean of Libraries Constantia Constantinou, our students will now have 24–hour access to the Melville Library Central Reading Room area during the Spring and Fall semesters from: Sunday 12:00 PM– Thursday Midnight
Friday and Saturday hours remain as follows: Friday 8:30 AM- 8:00 PM; Saturday10:00 AM- 10:00 PM
“In recognizing that our students have different schedules and different study needs, we are very excited to pilot the 24–hour shift” said Constantia Constantinou, Dean of Libraries. “The implementation of this extended schedule will enhance the productivity of our students and maximize the availability of library space for individual study and collaborative work.”
“The 24–hour library is going to significantly enhance the student learning experience,” said USG President Cole Lee. “This offers students spaces for comfort, collaboration and a place that’s consistently available for students to work in.”
