Dental Instruments Exhibit Opens at Health Sciences Library

Dental Instruments — Past and Present, an exhibit of early dental tools and practices, officially opened December 1st at 11 am. A reception was held in the entrance to the Health Sciences Library where the exhibit is located. Objects in the exhibit are from the personal collection of the late R. Sherman Mills, MD, the Baer Collection from the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine and the private collection of Allan J. Kucine, DDS. After the opening reception, a lecture was given by Philias R. Garant, DMD, Professor Emeritus and former Dean, School of Dental Medicine, entitled “History of Dental Medicine.” Following Dr. Garant’s lecture, Xiaolin Nong, PhD, DDS presented the inaugural lecture series of the Office of Global Library Initiatives,  entitled “The Idea of Exchange.” Many thanks to all who helped make this exhibit possible and to everyone who participated in the exhibit opening event. The exhibit will be featured at the Health Sciences Library until next fall.
