The Charles B. Wang Center and Long Island Folding Enthusiasts (L.I.F.E.) are proud to sponsor the fourth annual summer origami festival. This year proves to be one of the most exciting, featuring an array of origami activities and exhibitions of both nationally renowned and local origami artists.
The Origami Heaven Festival will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2008 from 11 AM to 4 PM at the Wang Center. The festival includes:
- A talk by film maker, Vanessa Gould (Green Fuse Films), and excerpts from her documentary, Between the Folds.
- Storigami, the teaching origami through storytelling.
- A greeting card workshop.
- A traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony.
- The Puppet Portal.
- Workshops and teaching tables where L.I.F.E. will help you learn to make origami.
Along with the festival there will be an exhibition: The Many Faces of Origami. The exhibition will be open August 2nd and 3rd, 10 AM to 5 PM, and August 4th to 8th, 10 AM to 7 PM, at the Wang Center. The exhibition features Joel Cooper’s breathtaking origami masks. Folded from single pieces of paper using advanced geometric folding techniques called tessellation, these magnificent masks have been exhibited throughout the world. Joining Joel will be a second installation featuring Anna Yu Powell’s one-of-a-kind origami animals, which are folded from prints of Dean Powell’s vibrantly colored and expressive paintings.
The Many Face of Origami is free and open to the public. Suggested donation of $5 for Origami Heaven.
