Dr. Jarvis M. Watson will focus his discussion on how his theoretical underpinnings on Black Male College Achievement have manifested in practice through initiatives such as the Student African American Brotherhood, collaborations with the University Departments, and leadership development with the Office of Multicultural Affairs. The title and research topics were inspired and connected with the free online public course created by Dr. J. Luke Wood out of San Diego State University called, Black Minds Matter. Stony Brook University has been a satellite location for students, faculty, and staff to watch, discuss, and implement strategic initiatives.
