Stony Brook University Libraries announce receiving the archive of the Citizen’s Committee for a Fire Island National Seashore. This grassroots campaign, led by Maurice Barbash and Irving Like in the 1960s, thwarted Robert Moses’ plan to build a highway through Fire Island, New York. The collection, donated by the Barbash family, is crucial to the history of the Fire Island National Seashore (FINS), which was established as a National Park Service unit on September 11, 1964.
