The University Libraries are excited to launch a new service that will make locating books and other materials in our stacks much easier! When browsing SEARCH, you will now see an option to locate the material in our stacks called ShelfFinder.
Clicking on this button will display a map with a locator icon and details on how to find your material in its holding location.
The side panel includes specific details regarding the shelving unit holding the book, dynamic directions to the library location, and a guide to the Library of Congress classification system. ShelfFinder is currently available for materials in the Music Library, Main Stacks and the North Reading Room.
This initiative was undertaken by Stony Brook Libraries and will be posted to GitHub as an open source codebase for other libraries to adapt and implement into their collection discovery interfaces. Thank you to Matthew Hartman and Timothy Kohn for their work on this project.
