The following presenters are recipients of SUNY’s OER grant creation initiative.
David McKinnon is a professor in Stony Brook University’s Neurobiology department. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in Neurobiology and Physiology. He will be presenting on the creation of his interactive OER textbook.
Gena Sbeglia is a research assistant professor in Stony Brook University’s Ecology and Evolution Department. Her research concentration is on the complex interplay of cognitive, affective, psychosocial and institutional factors that promote and inhibit meaningful learning of fundamental biological concepts.
Ross Nehm is a professor in Stony Brook University’s Ecology and Evolution Department. He is the Principal Investigator of Biology Education Research Lab. The BER lab conducts basic and applied research on human reasoning about evolutionary, ecological and biological concepts in order to improve understanding of living systems.
Gena and Ross will be presenting on their OER creation of a Matter and Energy Digital Assets for Learning (MEDAL) for gateway biology classes at SUNY. MEDAL is an OER library that contains an array of modular digital learning assets suitable for gateway biology classes.
