Data visualization literacy is rarely taught outside of STEM classrooms, and yet this mode of engaging with information has been taken up as one of the key methods of distant reading within the digital humanities. Drawing on scholarship from the fields of DH and computer science, the research I conducted through my internship with the Center for Digital Humanities illustrates the benefits of incorporating data visualizations into humanistic work, showcasing examples that I’ve developed in order to supplement my own research within the English department.
