Code of Conduct for Library Events and Workshops

All attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at University Libraries events and workshops are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Library faculty and staff will enforce this code throughout all library programs. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

The Libraries is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of program participants in any form in any event venue, including talks, workshops, Twitter and other online media. Attendees violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from an event space at the discretion of the event organizers.

Additional Details

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, or religion; sexual images in public spaces; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, library employees may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event space.

If you are being harassed or notice that someone else is being harassed, please alert an SBU Libraries employee. If you have any other concerns or need to report an incident after it has occurred, please contact libraryevents@stonybrook.edu. You should also contact the Office of Equity and Access at 631-632-6280 or OEA@stonybrook.edu

We expect participants to follow these rules in all event or workshop spaces, both virtual and in-person.
