Stop the presses! The GPO is now the Government Publishing Office, and no longer the Government Printing Office. The GPO has been providing free public access to government information since March 4, 1861, the day Abraham Lincoln was sworn into office. While still the same federal agency charged with providing access to government information, the GPO’s name change reflects the increased prominence of digital formats over traditionally printed resources. These digital formats are available through FDsys, the Federal Digital System, as well as through apps and eBooks. Some notable documents available on FDsys include The Warren Commission Report and the 9-11 Commission Report. For more information, Stony Brook University Libraries provide a subject guide on Government Documents & Information.
