- Club or student organization meetings
- Office hours, tutoring appointments, advising, or other meetings
- Commercial activities
- Sleeping
Taking an exam? Study rooms are not designated testing spaces. Please contact the Testing Center in Frey Hall for testing options.
Planning a club or organization meeting? Visit Student Engagement & Activities for information about reservable meeting spaces.
Study rooms close 30 minutes before the Library closes.
Your Reservation = Your Responsibility
The person who makes the reservation is responsible for:
- Being present during the reservation
- Choosing the correct room type
- Making sure the number of people does not exceed the room’s capacity
- Making sure everyone using the room follows the Study Room Rules
Reservations cannot be transferred to another student.
If no one in your group arrives within 15 minutes of the reservation start time, the reservation may be cancelled.
Describe Your Reservation Clearly
When you reserve a room, please provide a brief, accurate title and description that tells us how you plan to use the room.
For example:
Title: BIO 204 Study Group
Description: Group studying for BIO 204 exam
There’s no need for a lengthy explanation. We just need enough information to confirm that you’re reserving the appropriate type of room.
Reservations with missing or unclear information may be cancelled.
Room Capacity
Group Study Rooms: At least 2 people must use the room, and your group may not exceed the room’s posted capacity.
Solo Study Rooms: One person only.
Graduate Study Rooms: One person only.
If your group is larger than the capacity of the room you reserved, please choose a larger room or use an open collaborative study area.
Reservations may be cancelled when the number of people using a room does not match the room’s requirements.
Time Limits Apply to Everyone Using the Room
Study room time limits apply to the people using the room—not just the person whose name is on the reservation.
If you use a Group Study Room as part of a group, that time counts toward your daily and weekly limits even if someone else made the reservation.
Switching who makes the reservation does not restart the clock
Members of the same group may not make back-to-back or closely spaced reservations to extend the group’s room use beyond the daily or weekly limits.
For example:
Not permitted: Alex reserves a Group Study Room from 1–2 PM for a study group. Jordan, who is part of the same group, reserves a room from 2–3 PM so the group can continue studying.
Together, the group has reached its 2-hour daily limit.
Leaving a short gap between reservations does not restart the time limit.
Why? Study rooms are high-demand, shared spaces. These limits give more students a fair opportunity to reserve and use them.
While You're in the Room
Help us keep study rooms clean, comfortable, and ready for the next student:
- Keep noise at a level appropriate for the surrounding Library area.
- Do not move furniture into or out of the room.
- Do not exceed the room’s posted capacity.
- Keep windows in Solo and Graduate Study Rooms uncovered.
- Erase whiteboards when you’re finished.
- Take your trash and belongings with you.
- Follow the Libraries’ User Code of Responsibility.
Personal items left unattended may be removed by Library staff.
If a Room Is Being Used Outside These Guidelines
Our goal is to keep study rooms available and accessible to as many students as possible.
A reservation may be cancelled if the room is being used for a purpose that is not permitted, the room’s capacity is exceeded, reservation information is inaccurate or unclear, or the reservation exceeds applicable time limits.
Repeated violations may result in temporary suspension of study room reservation privileges. Continued violations may result in longer suspensions and referral to Student Conduct.
