Take the Hemingway challenge, he dared.

A story in six words, that’s what they say Ernest Hemingway wrote. Taken as a challenge, he came up with the tragic: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” Since then countless others have worked to pack just the right combination of meaning, emotion, and impact into a half-a-dozen words.

We’ve set up our own Hemingway Challenge in the SBU Southampton library. Pick up a pen and write down your own minimalist novel on our large pad of paper. We’re suggesting you write on the theme “Spring” but go where your inspiration takes you. You can sign your name or leave it anonymous.

We’ll leave the results on display in our Book Lounge but if you can’t make it out to Southampton, tweet us your story online @SBShamptonlib
