Special Collections Featured in Faculty Publication

Professor Paul Firbas’ recently published article features a rare book from Special Collections, SBU Libraries. In “Hemispheric Knowledge: Sarmiento de Gamboa and His Texts on the Strait of Magellan” (Annales de Literatura Chilena, December 2016, v. 17, no. 26), Firbas examines and analyzes Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa’s 16th century texts on the Magellan region. The 1768 book Viaje al estrecho de Magallanes por el capitán Pedro Sarmiento de Gambóa en los años de 1579 y 1580 y noticia de la expedición que después hizo para poblarle was consulted for this research and appears in the article.
