Stony Brook University Libraries is marking Open Access Week, October 23 – 27, with a series of events to raise awareness of open access, open education, the new Stony Brook University Open Access Policy, and trends in scholarly publishing and research data.

Join Darren Chase and Shafeek Fazal for a webinar presentation of strategies for preparing and promoting your scholarship and research, and ways to monitor your citations and impact. You’ll also learn how to: understand author metrics, select and use scholarly networking tools, choose reputable open access journals and publishing options, and understand how peer review is evolving.  On site seating is limited!

SBU students and faculty can help diversify Wikipedia!

Wikipedia wields enormous power in creating knowledge for/about the world. A diverse group of editors–women, people of color, ethnic/minority and marginalized peoples, and LBGTQ–is essential to shaping this source of global knowledge.

No experience is necessary! The event is free, but please bring your laptop and charger. Snacks and drinks will be provided!

Open In Order To . . .  Open Access Symposium 2017

WHEN: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

WHERE: Wang Center Theater

Open in order to… features visionary ideas from inspirational speakers. The symposium explores influential scholarly communication initiatives, including digital humanitiesopen educational resources (OER), open science and data visualization. The symposium brings open access front and center, with presentations and discussions on its value and meaning for academics, researchers, and librarians.

 

Hear from experts in the field including keynote speakers Elliot Harmon, Activist at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and Nicole Allen, Director of Open Education at SPARC.
Join us October 27, 2017, 8:15am – 4:00pm for an eye-opening day on the power of open access and its essential role in education.
