On July 1, a grand opening celebration for the new Computer Science Building will be held. This photograph from the University Archives is a rendering of the original building, which opened in May 1971. Founded in 1969, the Computer Science Department is the largest unit in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
The new facility will accelerate Stony Brook University’s growth in collaborative research in bioinformatics, smart energy, cyber engineering, physical sciences and the biomedicine field. Designed to achieve a LEED Silver certification, the building contains a mix of research and teaching labs, a wireless teaching lab, faculty offices and conference areas.
The University Libraries acquire and maintain extensive print and electronic collections to support research in computer science.
