Overnight Access to the Melville Library

To ensure a safer and more secure environment for all our students and staff, starting Monday, January 27, 2025 at midnight, access to the library between midnight and 7 AM will require a valid school ID. Your ID can be used on the sensors located at the entrances to the Melville Library. This policy aims to maintain the library as a dedicated space for academic study during late-night hours while protecting our campus community.

Why this change?

The overnight hours are a crucial time for many students who rely on the library for focused studying or collaborative projects. Requiring IDs will help us ensure that the library remains a safe and welcoming space for all students.

Benefits of the new policy

Enhanced Security: Restricted access will help deter unauthorized individuals from entering the library, creating a safer study environment.

Prioritized Resources: With limited overnight space, this ensures that desks, computers, and group study rooms are available for current students and staff.

Peace of Mind: You can focus on your studies, knowing that library staff are working to protect your safety.

To make the process seamless, please carry your school ID with you at all times. If you are leaving the building for a short period of time, bring your ID so you can get back in.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we implement this policy. Our shared goal is to make the library a better place for everyone, no matter the hour. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to the library administration team. We appreciate your continued support!
