2017 marks the 60th anniversary of Stony Brook University’s first student newspaper, The Statesman, founded in 1957 with the name Sucolian (an acronym for State University College on Long Island).
The newspaper has been digitized; it can be browsed and searched on DSpace, the SUNY Digital Repository. The original, print issues can also be requested at the Circulation Desk on the third floor of the Melville Library. On April 1, the Alumni Association will be hosting a special event in celebration of 60 years of The Statesman. Learn more about it here.
