First Sign of Spring = Art of the Violin

Sunny skies and warmer temperatures accompanied the Melville Library’s first concert of the Spring 2026 semester. Professor Jennifer Frautschi’s violin students entertained seated listeners and passersby with a joyful assortment of repertory for solo and chamber ensembles.

Violinist Shiqi Yang, with pianist Changyue Liu, performed two movements from César Franck’s Sonata in A major.

The Velaris String Quartet performed first movements of Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Quartet Op. 18, No.4 in C Minor, and Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major. Its members are: Hanna Park and Seeun Baek, violins ; Aidan Garrison, viola ; and Hyunah Lee, violoncello.
Aram Khachaturian’s Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano was performed by Guilherme Batalha, clarinet ; Da Young (Rachel) Lim, violin ; and Kevin Kyaw, piano.
Avery Morris concluded the program with her performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Partita in D Minor for Solo Violin, BWV 1004.

Our thanks to Professor Frautschi for coordinating the program; to all of the performers; to Tom Malenich, the Music Department’s piano technician; and to Caterina Reed-Araujo, Madison Jacobellis, Susan Connelly, Christine Fena, Chris Kretz, and Victor Santiago for their much appreciated assistance in setting up and breaking down the concert space.
