Update on Libraries’ Food Policy (#KnowYourLibraryZones)

We’re writing to let you know that starting Monday, January 23, 2023, food and drinks will be permitted in some areas of the Melville Library reading rooms.

In the Central Reading Room, food will be permitted in the event space. Food won’t be permitted in carpeted areas of the Central Reading Room, near the computers, or in the learning labs.

In the North Reading Room, food and drink will be permitted in all areas except the 2nd floor silent study stacks area.

Starting Wednesday, February 1, 2023, this policy will go into effect at the Health Sciences Library. Food will be permitted in the commons area. Food is not permitted in the silent study area.

Additional trash and recycling bins have been added to these areas. Paper towels will also be available to keep the library clean.  Please be respectful of our shared spaces and clean up after yourself.  We reserve the right to review and alter the policy as needed.
