On February 29, twenty bright eyed students from West Islip High School’s International Baccalaureate program visited Stony Brook University Libraries to learn about research skills and library databases
for their year long research projects on topics as disparate as Bach’s dance suites and gene therapy for retinitis pigmentosa. The students, all juniors, were introduced to SBU Libraries Subject & Research Guides and varied research databases, as well as being schooled in best practices for effective searches. As a highlight, IB Biology teacher Brian Haldenwang, an SBU alum, took the opportunity to stop by the Alumni Office to get a membership card granting him borrowing privileges, which were immediately exercised by him. It was great to meet the West Islip IB students and we wish them the best in their future scholarly endeavors!
