Stephanie McEvoy is the library’s graduate intern this semester. She is exploring academic librarianship while she completes her Master’s in Library Science degree from Queens College. She will be writing occasional columns about her discoveries and experiences at Stony Brook University Libraries.
I don’t know about you, but I never even knew that Subject Guides were available as a tool to help me find resources in a particular area. Let me tell you, these guides are GREAT! Using them can save SO much time at the beginning of an assignment, You must take a few minutes and browse through the topics that are available!
From the library homepage,click on the Databases and Subject Guides tab on the red ribbon near the top. You can browse through all the topics, or view by subject, type or author. When viewing by subject the number to the right of the subject area is indicative of the quantity of different guides available in that subject. You will be pleasantly surprised when you select a subject and find a guide designed specifically for your class.
Feel free to contact the author of the guide with any questions or for an appointment to discuss your research topics. Their contact information can be found on the right side of the guide. You might not know this, but academic librarians LOVE to help students!! So make a librarian smile today and ask for help. You will be glad that you did.
