Art Crawl Draws Enthusiastic Crowd

A large crowd of art enthusiasts attended the Art Crawl yesterday (Sept. 14, 2017). Art Crawls unite Stony Brook University’s galleries through a series of free, guided tours led by expert curators. They are supported by a Presidential Mini-Grant for Department Diversity Initiatives.

The tour included stops at the Alloway Gallery, the Melville Library, the Zuccaire Gallery, and the Wang Center. SBU Libraries participated in a unique way by producing an original short film and hosting the premier viewing of it. In the film, Helen A. Harrison, Eugene V. and Clare E. Thaw Director of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center gives a brief overview of the history of the studio building used by artists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner. Pollock and Krasner created most of their famous paintings in the studio and it stands as a testament to the importance of their work. A live question and answer session followed with Helen Harrison. The film and information about the Pollock-Krasner Reference Collection at Southampton Library can be accessed here.
