Description
Thomas McCormick
Gallerist, author of Mary Lee Abbott, a painter
In conjunction with “Mary Abbott: The Living Possibility of Paint,” the current exhibition at the Pollock-Krasner House, Tom will share his personal recollections of Mary and discuss her remarkable career. He met the artist in 2002 and represented her until her death in 2019. She is the subject of his monograph, Mary Lee Abbott, a painter, which was published in April.
McCormick Gallery specializes in American painting from the mid-20th century and a select group of contemporary artists, mainly from the Chicago area. Tom first presented Mary Abbott’s work in Chicago in 2004. Over the years he promoted her through catalog publication, exhibitions and art fairs, and ensured that she was included in the ground-breaking exhibition Women of Abstract Expressionism, organized in 2016 by the Denver Art Museum.
The Art in Focus series features illustrated talks that illuminate the world of art, co-sponsored by Stony Brook Southampton Library and the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center. The talks are free, but registration is required. This event is made possible by support from the John H. Marburger III Fund of Stony Brook University.
