Description
In January 1951, the Betty Parsons Gallery staged a little-known loan exhibition of American abstractionists at the School of the Museum of Fine arts, Boston. Students experienced first-hand works by Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Theodoros Stamos, Hedda Sterne, Richard Pousette-Dart and others. For the occasion, Pousette-Dart delivered a talk that both captured the spirit of the moment and illuminated his approach to art-making.
Charles Duncan, Executive Director of the Richard Pousette-Dart Foundation, will present recent research related to the 1951 exhibition and its participating artists.
The Art in Focus lecture series is co-sponsored by Stony Brook University Libraries and the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center. Talks are free, but registration is required. Made possible by support from the John H. Marbuger III Fund of Stony Brook University.
