On March 9, 2021, Dr. Sara Hamideh talked about her research work, which is focused on 1) post disaster community resilience and 2) the recovery planning and decision making processes after disasters.
Dr. Hamideh and her team used Markov chain model, which predicts and focuses on the timing of how a household goes through housing recovery. She elaborated on how households’ socio-economic status impacts how quickly households go through the housing recovery stages, and even if households revert to previous housing recovery stages. Dr. Hamideh also discussed the application of her and her team’s Markov chain model and policy recommendations that they concluded from the application of the model.
This interesting lecture generated discussions about the application of the model in real life situations.
