Trust and Authority in the Information Environment

Presented by Chris Filstrup; Librarian, Research & Instruction Services
The ways libraries select information from a large set of resources depend primarily on trust rather than on a rational analysis of the information itself. Yet trust as a value is not absolute: some agencies are trustworthy, others are not. As individuals how to individual librarians negotiate the messy arena of socially constructed knowledge? When do we trust, when do we tie the camel?

Self-publishing Creative Works

Presented by Celeste Hessler; Assistant Head, Music Cataloger, Music Library
Self-publishing and self-marketing is the way of the future. Learn how one SBU Libraries staff member has emerged in the worlds of music and book publication by taking advantage of services offered by Amazon, Youtube, and all the big social media platforms to bring her creative interests to the world.
