Description

Creating Digital Gaming Tools that Yield Informative Assessment Results: Kristen Cinar Coordinator, Research & Instruction Services Central Reading Room
SBU Libraries’ educational scavenger hunts have sparked nationwide interest from other academic institutions and have now evolved into a new online game aimed at helping digital natives learn more about effective research skills and methods and other essential library services in a fun and interactive way. Public Services Coordinator Kristen Cinar will explain how such gaming tools can be used to breathe life into any subject matter and even enhance departmental training techniques while yielding informative assessment data.

Getting GIFfy With It and 3D Printing in Education: Laura Costello, Head of Research & Emerging Technologies, Research & User Engagement and Dana Haugh, Web Services Librarian, Library Technology, Discovery and Digital Initiatives
Laura will present micro versions of the two presentations she gave at the New York Library Association conference in October. The first describes the rise and use of 3D printers in libraries and for education with hardware recommendations, descriptions of different processes, and a look towards the future of this exciting technology. The second is a workshop which will demonstrate several easy methods for creating gif files and describe some of the potential applications of this file type in libraries.

All are welcome to join our library faculty and staff as we share our research, expertise and service to the Stony Brook Community.
