Nikita Soni, PhD student, on “Human-Centered Large Language Modeling”

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Nikita Soni, PhD student from the Department of Computer Science, presented the third lecture of the fall 2024 STEM Speakers Series at the University Libraries.

Nikita discussed the lack of diverse human context in natural language processing (NLP) models pre-LLMs (large language modeling) era. To bridge the gap, Nikita described how she developed human-content-aware language models that integrate human factors into them, allowing situational, social, and environmental factors in language understanding. She empirically compared the results of different types of human contents in Large Human Language Models (LuLMs). Her research is ongoing and contributing to creating fairer and more equitable NLP tools.

The thought provoking lecture attracted interesting questions from audiences during and after the presentation.
