Christine Fena wins SUNYLA award

Congratulations to our Undergraduate Success Librarian Christine Fena! She is the recipient of this year’s Excellence in Scholarship Award presented by the State University of New York Librarians Association (SUNYLA). The award celebrates SUNYLA members who authored or co-authored impactful research through publications, presentations, or similar works.

Christine was recognized for the book chapter “Being able to play for a larger audience”: Student musician perspectives on performing in library spaces. Co-authored with SBU Libraries Music Librarian Gisele Schierhorst, the work appeared in the book Creators in the Academic Library: Collections and Spaces published by the American Library Association in 2023 and edited by Rebecca Zuege Kuglitsch and Alexander C. Watkins.

The chapter looks at the perceptions of student musicians towards their performances in library spaces. You can read the full text in our Academic Commons digital repository.
