Clarinuts Present an Exciting Program

The spring semester’s concert series in the Galleria concluded with a performance by ClariNuts, the talented graduate students of clarinet professor Alan Kay. It was well attended and appreciated by members of the university community.

The program began with Black Anemones by Joseph Schwanter, performed by Nikhil Bartolomeo, clarinet and Shuting Ye, piano.

Fellow students, faculty and community members, as well as passersby, enjoyed the performance.

Svante Henryson’s work, Off Pist, was performed by Guilherme Batalha, clarinet, and Lindsey Choung, cello.

Guitarist Edison Pereyra joined clarinetist Daniel Meszaros for Astor Piazzolla’s L’histoire du tango: Cafe 1930.

Kelsi Doolittle and Octavio Deluchi performed Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 by Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Noites Cariocas by Jacob do Bandolim.

Professor Alan Kay spoke to the audience and also joined the concert as clarinetist and pianist.

The Sediment Four (Alan Kay, Nikhil Bartolomeo, David Oh, and Kelsi Doolittle, clarinets) performed Of Vines and Wines, composed by Music Dept. faculty member Perry Goldstein.

David Oh, clarinet and Nahyoung Kim, piano, performed Arcade by Juri Seo.

Katherine “Waffy,” Spencer performed Morgen by Richard Strauss, accompanied by Professor Kay.

The Pigeon Hole Quartet (Daniel Meszaros, Chao-Chih George Chen, Katherine “Waffy,” Spencer, Guilherme Batalha, clarinets) performed Tango and Malaguena from Espagnola Suite No. 1 by Isaac Albeniz…

as well as Ain’t Misbehavin‘ by Thomas “Fats,” Waller, and In the Mood by Joe Garland and Andy Razaf.

Thanks as always Clarinuts, for a great performance and a superb ending to the academic year. Thanks also to the library’s volunteers who set up the concert and moved the piano. See you all next time!
