Dr. Aruna Balasubramanian presented the first Spring STEM lecture online on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
Dr. Balasubramanian and her research team use various metrics to measure web performance and user experience. As webpage load times are critical, her research team built a tool called WProfX that can identify why a page is slow. Factors contributing to the improvement in webpage performance included better browsers, improved networks, newer hardware, and optimized web pages. However, these improvements are not universal.
One of the metrics that the research team used, Quality of Experience (QoE) metrics, showed that page load time did not correlate with user experience. The research team also used other metrics for their studies.
The intriguing talk ignited very interesting questions from the audience.
