Stony Brook Health Sciences Librarians Jessica Koos, Jamie Saragossi, and Gregg Stevens, along with Sal Filosa from the Port Jefferson Free Library, were recently awarded the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) Health Information Awareness Award. The purpose of this award is to support outreach services that promote the National Library of Medicine’s consumer health resources.
The funds will be used to provide hands-on workshops to public librarians on the use of Medline Plus, Genetics Home Reference and TOXNET. Online tutorials will also be created and made available to those needing a refresher, or those who are unable to attend the workshops. It is hoped that this project will also create partnerships to help improve health literacy and health outcomes in Suffolk County.
